Registered Agent Locations

About Registered Agent Locations

A Registered Agent Location is the address at which Stable, acting as Registered Agent accepts service of process and official state mail on behalf of one of your companies in a single US jurisdiction. Unlike a CMRA, a registered agent location:

  • Is tied to an existing Company (you must create the company first).
  • Does not require USPS Form 1583 before it is used.
  • Is requested with a 2-letter US state code (for example WY or DE) rather than an IATA-style facility code.

Create a Registered Agent Location

See the following recipe: Create a Registered Agent Location.

Mail delivered to Registered Agent Locations

Official mail delivered to a Registered Agent Location is treated like other Mail Items delivered to Stable addresses. This means they can be read, acted on, and organized in a similar way to other Mail Items.

See Mailroom to understand how Mail Items are managed.

Official use

Once a Registered Agent Location is created, you must formally appoint the service as your agent on state forms.

For not-yet-formed businesses, you can use a Stable Registered Agent on your formation documents. For existing businesses, you must file a Statement of Change of Registered Agent with your state's filing office (usually the Secretary of State).

See the Filings API to learn about programmatically submitting a Change of Agent.
