Address Lifecycle

Overview

Locations have two status fields:

These two fields are independent, and vary between CMRA and Registered Agent addresses. See Address Types for more information.

CMRA addresses

Statuses

  • active: the address is enabled and billable. CMRA addresses are active as soon as you create them.
  • inactive: the address has been deactivated.

Onboarding statuses

Onboarding is synonymous with Address Authorization (USPS Form 1583). This is a stateful process, and the current step is reflected in the onboarding.status field.

  • authorize: Stable still needs officer information, documents, and a signature before we can open and scan any mail received at the address.
  • sign: USPS Form 1583 information has been submitted, but an authorized person needs to sign a Signature Packet.
  • verify: the Signature Packet has been signed, and Stable is reviewing the documents. This process takes 1 business day or less.
  • complete: Stable is authorized to open and scan mail at the address. Prior to this, mail is held but not opened.

You can monitor onboarding using the location.onboarding.updated Webhook events.

Registered Agent addresses

Status

  • pending: Stable is provisioning the Registered Agent address and service. This is usually immediate, so it may appear that the address is created with pending or active.
  • active: the address and service are active and billable. The Registered Agent may still need to be registered with the state by filing a Change of Agent, which can be done programmatically using the Filings API.
  • inactive: the address and service have been deactivated.

Onboarding statuses

Registered Agent addresses do not need USPS Form 1583. Their onboarding.status is always complete.
